NEW MEXICO INSPIRATONS | Extra

There are many other ways to enjoy New Mexico, from skiing to attending a cooking class. The following are a few examples.

• Workshops. Take a cooking class for a day or a professional-level photography workshop for a week. Learn to weave, study literary classics, take a course in Southwest history, or attend a workshop on poetry, screenwriting, or a variety other fascinating subjects. There are many opportunities to enhance one's skills and knowledge.

Balloon Flights

• Flights. Private chartered aircraft can make seeing the entire state and neighboring states simple. It is possible, for example, to visit the Grand Canyon or Canyon de Chelly in Arizona, or Monument Valley or Canyonlands National Park in Utah, then return to New Mexico.

• Hot Air Balloon Rides. Hot air ballooning is very popular, especially in central New Mexico. Visitors can take scenic and exciting hot air balloon rides.

• Entertainment. Performing arts abound in New Mexico. Of special note are Popejoy Hall in Albuquerque, the Spencer Theater near Ruidoso, and the Lensic Center for the Performing Arts in Santa Fe. All present a wide variety of music, theater, and dance. The Santa Fe Opera and Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, both in summer, are world-famous events featuring eminent singers and musicians. Flamenco dancing is very popular because of New Mexico's Spanish roots. Maria Benitez Teatro Flamenco is based in Santa Fe and there are several other flamenco companies.

New Mexico Extras• Sports. New Mexico boasts 80 scenic golf courses. There is also hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, river rafting, and gliding. In the winter, there are 9 mountain ski areas.
